Growing Practices
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a key component in growing fruit at Burtt's Apple Orchard. IPM is a common sense approach and enables us to grow fruit in a way that is ecologically sound and healthy to eat.
IPM- What we do
Precision soil and nutrient management to promote tree health
Frequent scouting
Tall Spindle planting system and low mowed grass to reduce humidity
Use NEWA (Network for Environment and Weather Applications) website for pest forecasts
Community Practices
As much as we strive to be to be good stewards of our land, we also strive to be good stewards in our community. Each year Burtt’s Apple Orchard donates hundreds of pounds of apples to the Vermont Food Bank and local food shelves.
We are proud members of the Vermont Tree Fruit Growers' Association, helping orchards across Vermont grow quality, eco-friendly apples. www.vermontapples.orgmportant news.
